Dawson & Keenan
Through the Years
1892
John Dawson, an English immigrant, establishes Dawson Real Estate and Fire Insurance in a building on the corner of East and Queen Street.
1918
John Dawson sells the Dawson block to his sons, James and George, which consists of an insurance business and a grocery business. James focuses on the insurance business.
1932
James Dawson’s son Fred J. Dawson joins the firm and the name is changed to Dawson & Dawson Real Estate and Insurance.
1962
Fred Dawson merges his business with lifetime friend, Cliff Keenan, and they rename the firm, Dawson & Keenan Insurance. Arthur Day joins the firm as junior partner.
1983
Arthur Day’s children, Larry and Elaine, begin working at Dawson & Keenan.
1988
Larry and Elaine begin taking over the management of Dawson & Keenan. That same year, real estate operations were discontinued, and the sole focus of the firm became insurance.
2011
After 52 years at Brock Street, Dawson & Keenan moved to its current office at 432 Great Northern Road, Suite 201 in Sault Ste. Marie.
